In the past, obtaining German citizenship was considered to be a complex bureaucratic matter, which made it difficult for applicants to conclude the process successfully and become German citizens. In addition, many applicants were deemed unqualified or were rejected over the years, due to \u201cnoncompliance\u201d with the authorities\u2019 requirements, which were not always easily understandable.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Moreover, strict and meticulous requirements caused applicants to be disqualified due to having parents with additional citizenships or due to gender, as mentioned above, since descendants of a German mother were usually not recognized by the German legislature. In fact, citizenship was conditional on the father (grandfather etc) being a past German citizen.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">However, because of the many difficulties and required conditions, it was eventually decided to use a special clause that specifically related to past German citizens who had connections to Nazi Germany; namely, anyone who left Germany between 1933 and 1945, and whose citizenship was cancelled due to political, religious, or racial reasons. The legal process requires editing and translating of documents into the German language, which prove past German citizenship or cancellation of such citizenship.
